Why Hire a Scopist?

Because your time is valuable.  Consider the following information:  A reporter can make more money working with a scopist.  Here is an example that shows how this can be done:

                Emma is a reporter that uses a scopist.

Kendra is a reporter that doesn't use a scopist.

On Day 1, Emma and Kendra took a job that was 200

                    pages.  They both are paid $3.50 per page.

On Day 2, Emma is back to work writing another job.

                    Kendra is not able to take another job because

                    she is scoping yesterday's work.

Here's how it adds up:

Day 1                                                          

Emma's appearance fee:               $75         Kendra's appearance fee:          $75

200 pages @ $3.50/page:         $700        200 pages @ $3.50/page:     $700

Emma pays scopist $1.00/pg: $200         Kendra doesn't pay a scopist:     $0

Emma's total for Day 1:      $575         Kendra's total for Day 1:   $775

Day 2

Emma's appearance fee:                $75         Kendra's not available today       $0

200 pages @ $3.50/page:         $700        Busy scoping her own work         $0

Emma pays scopist $1.00/pg: $200         Kendra doesn't pay a scopist       $0

Emma's total for Day 2:      $575         Kendra's total for Day 2:       $0

So Emma makes $1,150 for the two days and Kendra makes $775.  Because Emma used a scopist she was able to generate $375 more than Kendra.

Also, Emma's scopist fees are tax deductible.  So for a busy reporter it makes sense to use a scopist. After all, your time is valuable.
